The classic product is made with chopped pork shoulder, ham, salt, water, potato starch and sodium nitrate.

At a New Years Eve party in 1936 Jay Hormel asked his guests to come up with a name for his new luncheon meat.

An actor called Kenneth Daigneau won $100 with his suggestion of SPAM.
