Absolutely right. I’ve been advocating this for years.
You want to get on Facebook or Twitter, Lie.
Lie about your age, lie about your occupation, lie about your location, even, if you must, lie about your sex.
You can even use a false name, although that goes against Facebook’s rules, what the hell does it matter to your friends.
If all you want to do is keep in touch with a few friends and family members, they know who you are. False information doesn’t bother them.
Your real identity will be safe from cyber criminals, fraudsters etc.
If you’re a business using social networks for promotional purposes then that is a different matter. But with personal accounts it really pays to be cautious with the information you put out on the internet.
Once it’s out there it’s almost impossible to delete it.
