Apple has released the Gold Master of OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion to developers. So the official public release can’t be far off. No-one outside Apple knows when that will be. The official line from Apple is July, but their not saying exactly when.

Nevertheless if you’re going to update your system to Mountain Lion when it finally ships, then it might pay you to get your existing system ready.

Apple says Mountain Lion will be simple to install, and if it follows the example set by 10.7 Lion it certainly will be. However there is nothing to be lost by making sure you are ready.
